NATUROPATHY
Naturopathy is a traditional, evidence-based, & holistic healthcare practice that harnesses the power of natural plant-based medicine, as well as nutrition, diet & lifestyle, and energetic medicine such as homeopathy & flower essences to facilitate healing & maintain optimal health outcomes.
There are six fundamental principles of naturopathic medicine:
1
The Healing Power of Nature (vis medicatrix naturae)
Trust in the body’s inherent wisdom to heal itself
2
First, Do No Harm (primum non nocere)
Utilise the most natural, least invasive & least toxic therapies
3
Identify & Treat the Cause (tolle causam)
Look beyond the symptoms to the underlying cause
4
Treat the Whole Person (tolle totum)
View the body as an integrated whole in all its mental, physical, & spiritual dimensions
5
Education/Naturopath as Teacher (docere)
Educate clients in the steps to achieving & maintaining health
6
Prevention
Focus on overall health, wellness, & disease prevention
Importance is placed on the ability to develop an individually tailored treatment plan for each individual, as no two bodies have the same function. It allows treatment of the individual, rather than their signs, symptoms, or state of suboptimal health/disease.
Investigation of pathology, nutritional deficiencies, signs & symptoms, predisposing risk factors, a full-body systems review, & physical examinations are undertaken to determine the underlying causes of issues within the body to provide symptomatic relief, long-term resolutions, & preventative measures for optimal long-term health outcomes.
It is also important to mention that Naturopathy is sometimes referred to as complementary medicine, as it complements other healthcare models such as allied health & western medicine models to work towards providing the best health outcomes for patients.
I believe it is important we all work together to reach YOUR best health outcomes!
